Wellington Indoor Cricket CLUB

Our club is a stalwart of indoor cricket in New Zealand.   Our Wellington Indoor Cricket Club has been providing the opportunity for players to play both social and competitive indoor cricket for over 30 years, and in this time has also been a regular competitor in regional and national competitions, and a regular source of players for our national teams.

We work hard to maintain a culture that is welcoming to all players of all levels of ability, encourage families and friends to get involved, provide fun and entertainment for all, and provide effective pathways for those seeking to achieve representative honours in our sport.

In recent years, we unfortunately had to deal with the loss of our main playing centre in Newtown and relocate to the smaller facilities at WIS City Station (beside the stadium carpark), but despite this, our big little club has continued to grow.   In fact, the hard work of the club and its members has seen us continue to grow despite the loss of facilities, and already this year we have registered over 120 members, an increase of our members from last year.

For several years now, our Wellington Indoor Cricket Club has been the largest contributor of teams to compete in regional and national indoor cricket tournaments at both the opens and the masters (over 35) levels, enjoying success at all levels in these contests.

We are also enjoying a resurrection of the women’s grade at our club after several years not being able to achieve the number of players required to field a team. We now have nearly 2 dozen women competing regularly in the premier women’s competition, and with Wellington Cricket recently beginning a big promotion of indoor cricket to all female cricket players we certainly hope to continue to see these numbers grow in the future.

Wellington Indoor Cricket Club has a long and proud history of many of its players over the years representing with pride and distinction, Wellington regional, Central Districts provincial, and New Zealand national teams, as players, coaches, and/or managers.

At any club night you can hope to be shoulder to shoulder with any number of provincial, regional, national, and international representatives and champions.  There are more than a few world cup medals floating around among our members from previous International Juniors, Opens, and Masters World Series.

One of our dedicated members has been developing a YouTube channel over the last few years that streams live broadcasts of WIS games at Superleague (regional) and National competitions.

This has been improving steadily in quality, functionality, and popularity, and is now a valuable source of engagement for all players, supporters, and general indoor cricket fans.

In numerical terms, this YouTube channel garnered 7,165 views and a total watch time of 852 hours in 2023.  In 2024, those figures soared to 32,524 views along with a remarkable watch time of 4,436 hours! Notably, over 90% of the viewers are from New Zealand.

This highlights the swiftly expanding realm of indoor cricket as entertainment. We are dedicated to fostering the continued growth and evolution of both indoor cricket and this channel in the years to come.
